Sapna Hayes

Dr. Hayes received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Louisiana State University- School of Dentistry in 1997.  She joined the US Air Force and served for 10 years. Her tenure in the military took her to England, Texas, Florida, California and Ohio. During her service time, she served as Chief of General Dentistry, Dental Support Flight Commander, Dental Public Health Officer and was on the Forensic dental team.

She created and founded the Red Cross Volunteer Dental Assisting Training Program at Lakenheath AFB in the United Kingdom which resulted in over 1200 hours/month of volunteer service from her students for the base’s multispecialty (over 30 dentists) clinic.  In her 3 years at this base, the training program relieved staffing shortages regularly (due to deployed active duty assistants) and provided employable skill sets for over 50 nonmilitary family members.

She also, led an Air Force sponsored Guatemala Humanitarian Dental mission which provided dental treatment in three impoverished fishing villages.

She trained over 50 active duty dental assisting students and mentored 10 junior dentists in her AF career. She was featured twice in the US Air Force magazine for her mentorship and exemplary service as a dental officer. She was recognized as Company Grade Officer of the Quarter twice within one base’s Dental Corps and twice at another base’s Medical Corps (selected from over 800 medical and dental officers). She earned several meritorious service and commendation medals while serving her country and her patients.

In 2007, Dr. Hayes cofounded Winters Healthcare Dental Clinic to address the oral health needs for the underserved population in Winters, California and surrounding rural areas.  The dental clinic is part of a nonprofit community health center which offers health care, dentistry and integrated behavioral health services to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. The clinic has since grown to 10 staff members including 3 dentists.

She then moved with her active duty husband to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH where she worked as a civilian dentist for 4 years caring for service members keeping them deployable and mission ready.

After fulfilling their military obligations, she and her family settled in Asheville, North Carolina in 2012.  In 2013, she joined Zöe Dental’s team.  She had an instant affinity to the practice’s mission to change the perspective of dentistry and for its’ community service.    She provided free dental services (fillings and extractions) in nine Dentistry from the Heart events since 2013, five of the events were hosted by Zöe Dental.

Since 2013 through the Rotary Club of Asheville, she has teamed up with 4 dental/medical mission brigades to Honduras where 1000 patients were served with each annual mission.

In 2014, she joined a medical/dental mission endeavor to Kenya, Africa and provided oral surgery treatment for the tribal Maasai people.

Furthering her dental career, she stays current on dental disciplines via continuing education through the Spear Education Continuum which focuses on comprehensive full mouth rehabilitation, Academy of General Dentistry and Hinman Meetings and ADA conventions.
